Operator Training Simulator

Operator Training Simulator (OTS), is a digital simulation system utilizing the powerful calculating capability of computer to imitate the operation of power system, for training operators. The fundamentals of OTS are the functions of simulating the behaviors of a power system and the graphical user interface for presenting the power network to users. It provides an alive and imitated operation environment for the simulation of normal, abnormal or faults’ operation, and restoration of a power system. It can also be used for analysis of different operation schedules.
The main functions of OTS can be used for new operators to get familiar with the behavior of all equipment; at-post personnel to perform replay of events and rehearsal; power network programming personnel to make planning and study. training the chief dispatcher’s ability on right decision making and quick organizing when system failure occurs; operation planning personnel to program the safety operation modes;
		Features Realism: replay of the load flow distribution and dynamic process of power network under normal, abnormal and restoration operation. Exactness: alive and imitated training environment provides a simulation close to a real dispatching center. Flexibility: supporting functions for training satisfy the demand of various case study through parameter settings of basic and supplementary equipment, frequency and voltage regulation, setting short circuit or open circuit fault at buses setting fault transformers, generators and lines. Openness: modular structure gives expandability and compatibility for easy approaches of expanding and upgrading the system, and easy to integrate with a DMS (Distribution Management System). Practicability: reliable hardware, robust software, and simple but friendly screens give fundamental of easiness of system maintenance.
Eureka project - SIGORDE Build up a DMS (Distribution Management System) for Medium-Low Voltage Electric Power Network, with an OTS (Operator Training Simulator) International cooperation with Portugal and Mainland China A group formed by INESC Macau, FST/UM and Tsinghua University works mainly on OTS The result of this project would benefit to improve the quality, efficiency and cost of power supply
DMS/OTS System Overview DMS: maintains distribution network in a stable and reliable manner, improve efficiency, provide equipment management facilities. OTS: simulates the behaviors of a power system through graphical presentation of the network for different operation situations, for operator training, and system analysis.
